The Chest of Blue Poppies 10+
Bina Štampe Žmavc
The Himalayan blue poppy blooms high up, where the world grows quieter. The performance, too, invites us into such a place of calm: a gentle and poetic story about a grandmother and grandfather, and about a love that endures even as words slowly fade. Based on the text by Bina Štampe Žmavc, the blue poppy becomes a symbol of old age, memories, and transience.
The performance opens a space for a quiet yet profound intergenerational dialogue. Through a rich world of symbols—birds’ song, fields of forgetting, shoes of faraway places, and the blue poppy—children enter a story in which the grandmother slowly becomes lost, while the grandfather walks beside her with love, patience, and devotion.
At a time when, as a community, we are increasingly confronted with old age and dementia, the performance offers both children and adults a precious experience of compassion, understanding, and human closeness. It invites us to let ourselves be touched and to see one another anew, with the heart.
