Transport Project in Maribor

The series of puppet performances Transport — Cargo, Departure, Connecting Flights, The Front, Fasten Your Seatbelts! and Turning Point — was created as part of an international collaboration between six European theatres from Slovenia, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and the Czech Republic, initiated by author and director Tin Grabnar.

The Transport project began with a focus on specific issues raised by the question of increasing transport in the globalised world. The performances are characterised by a hyper-realistic miniature representation of the world, confronting audiences with the realities of ecological crises, wars, the depletion of natural resources and the loss of cultural identity.

The Transport Festival offers an opportunity to see the performances created as part of the project, take part in discussions with the artists, visit the exhibition and socialise through a quiz. It provides a broad insight into the processes behind the creation of a project that brought together six theatres and a Slovenian creative team with artists and technicians from each of the participating countries.

The Transport Festival for Young People is designed for organised groups of secondary-school students and includes performances, guided tours of the festival exhibition, and a technology workshop introducing the techniques used in the project. A selected group of young people from three secondary schools in Maribor will follow the festival programme in its entirety and explore its content in greater depth. Under the guidance of mentors, they will also prepare written reflections on contemporary puppet theatre and the pressing social issues addressed by the performances. The Transport Quiz will put individual themes explored in the performances under the microscope, along with interesting facts related to technology and the innovations used in the productions.
