Puppet theatre is a markedly visual form of performing arts. Exhibitions display the rich and multi-layered visuals of puppetry while also unveiling the accompanying and preparatory activities when creating puppetry performances. Several rooms at the Puppet Theatre Maribor are dedicated to exhibitions of visual materials. Puppets on Exhibit

museum exhibition of puppets

We exhibit puppets, sketches, plans, scenery, posters and photographic documentation from the past, from the early 20th century through amateur puppetry in Maribor to modern performances by the Puppet Theatre Maribor. You will meet the history of our theatre and learn about different puppetry techniques. We offer a tour of the exhibition with professional guidance. The tour is also suitable for cultural days, and the length of the tour is entirely flexible.

Price including guidance

2€; half price in combination with attending a performance.

Puppet of the Month

exterior showcase

On the southeastern face of the monastery is a glass cabinet, dedicated to showcasing smaller pieces of puppetry equipment. Here you will find original elements, mainly puppets, from our past productions, but also creations from young and promising puppetry artists from our hometown and the surrounding area.

Puppets in the Foyer

accompanying programme for the performances

The foyer houses exhibitions of sketches, technical drawings, illustrations, photographs and other templates from our collaborators – visual artists, set designers, puppet designers, and costume designers. The exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the development process of the performance and some of the templates are true works of art in their own right, deserving attention. These exhibitions accompany premiere performances. Additionally on exhibit in the foyer are artistic reflexions from our young audiences, taken after attending a performance.

KleT

underparterre of the Church

The exhibition area is split into two parts. One of them displays the archaeological finds during the renovation project of the Minorite church. These finds rewrite the history of our city and offer new insights into a much more distant past than anticipated before their discovery. The other part, fitted with photographs of the individual renovation phases of the Minorite church, is a pictoresque supplement to the archaeological displays, though it is also used for guest exhibits and smaller space installations.
